Cover Summary: Created by the brilliant scientist, Dr. Hope, you are the young boy Innocent Life.
You’ll discover life through your long journey trying to solve the mystery surrounding the ancient ruins on the islands.
This brand new episode of the best-selling Harvest Moon series features a futuristic twist. A dual game system allows the player to access all the familiar Harvest Moon activities of raring animals and running a farm along with a story mode where you must uncover the mysterious Spirit Stones and revive the forbidden ground sealed by the wrath of the spirits living in the ancient ruins.
Is the island’s fate already decided? Can this futuristic land be saved? Everything is in Life’s hands!
The Story: As the summary says; you play as a young boy (android, actually) named Life (Though you may call him whatever you wish). Life is sent on a quest by his creator, Dr. Hope, to save thier island home of Heartflame Island, at the center of which is a volcano set to explode, destroying the island, within the next five years… because the Fire Spirit at it’s core became angry at the ignorance of Heartflame’s inhabitants to the environment around them…
Life’s quest is to restore the Easter Ruins, at which he begins to live, by faming the land, growing crops, and raising animals (Sheep, Chickens and Cows, a Dog and a Cat) to gain favour with the Forest Sprites, who watch over the island.
At first you only start out with a small plot of land, but will eventually gain more as you explore the surrounding caves, forest, and underground passegeways, to find Spirit Stones. Your farming land is devided into square patches of ground, each square has a pedestal at each of it’s corners, four Spirit Stone’s of the same color placed at each corner of a square restores the land and makes it farmable, and, depending on the color of the Spirit Stone’s used, gives the plot a different quality, such as; faster growing crops, land retains water for longer so you don’t have to water as often, or can give the crops a higher selling price…
You also get a robot to give you a hand when you can’t take care of your land yourself, be it for reasons of time, energy, or even if you’re camping on the other side of the island…
The season change as well (as in most Harvest Moon games). Each minute in real-time is one hour in game time, 24 hours to a day, 35 days to a season, 4 seasons to a year. Certain crops are only available in certain seasons and can only be grown in the season you can buy them in… you can also gather wild fruits and the like from around the island and sell them, though there is a limit to how much you can take at any one time…
Paleshadow’s Say: This game is seriously addictive! The graphics are georgeous. And the music is well orchestrated and enjoyable, though it does get a little repetetive after a year of game-time…
It won’t appeal to everyone, especially to someone with no patience, but if you like games like The Sims, Sim Safari, and other life-simulators, then you’ll love this, it’s not quite as involved as previous Harvest Moon games, bu this is just about the best you can get for a handheld console…
Score: 82% – 100%. Overall, the game is good, if it had been on a home cosole like the Wii or PS2 I would have given it a lower score, but for a PSP game it’s flipping great!
